Nuclear safety

The NEA Committee on Nuclear Regulatory Activities and the NEA Committee on the Safety of Nuclear Installations met in December 2006. Both committees reviewed work accomplished as well as proposed future activities. A number of workshops and fora will be organised in 2007 and 2008, notably the Forum on Assuring Nuclear Safety (FANS-07), which will be held in Paris in June 2007. More information is available at www.oecd-nea.org/nsd/.

Nuclear science

The NEA Nuclear Science Committee bureau met at NEA headquarters on 5 December 2006 to review its ongoing programme of work. Bureau members approved two new NEA conferences and the establishment of two expert groups. The first conference, Nuclear Data for Science and Technology (ND-2010), will be held in South Korea in 2010. The second, a joint conference on Supercomputing in Nuclear Applications and the Monte Carlo Method (SNA 2010 & MC-2010), will be held in Japan, also in 2010. The newly created Expert Group on Ab-initio Modelling and Simulation of Advanced Nuclear Fuels will carry out a technical review of the development of simulation programs used to determine nuclear fuel performance. The new Expert Group on Assay Data of Spent Nuclear Fuel will pursue two activities in parallel: updating the NEA spent fuel isotopic composition database (SFCOMPO), and writing a state-of-the-art report on isotopic composition data as measured by post-irradiation experiments carried out on spent nuclear fuel.
