The CSNI Action Plan in the Area of Safety Margins was set up by the Committee on the Safety of Nuclear Installations (CSNI) with the following objectives:

To agree on a framework for integrated assessments of the changes to the overall safety of the plant as a result of simultaneous changes in plant operation/condition;
To develop a CSNI document which can be used by member countries to assess the effect of plant change on the overall safety of the plant;
To share information and experience.

With the completion of its programme of work in 2007, the group disbanded.

The Committee on the Safety of Nuclear Installations (CSNI) is responsible for NEA programmes and activities that support maintaining and advancing the scientific and technical knowledge base of the safety of nuclear installations.

Task Group on Safety Margin Applications and Assessment (SM2A)

This task group was set up to carry out a pilot project using the methodology propsed in the final SMAP report published in 2007. In this pilot project, the SMAP methodology was applied to the Zion nuclear power plant in consideration of the US NRC loss-of-coolant accident rulemaking change and a power uprate of 10%.
