3. NATURE OF PHYSICAL PROBLEM SOLVED

PWR equilibrium cycles are studied for fuel management performances. The feed enrichment or the cycle length is determined when another item and the reload are specified. Several fuel cost evaluations are done according to the economic data sets supplied.

4. METHOD OF SOLUTION

The neutronic problem is solved by a simple and original method called approximate balance of reactivity. Two procedures, direct and iterative, can be selected to accomplish it.
The economic method calculates the direct and indirect costs by the usual division into 10 items, whose values are derived from the input data and the neutronic results.

5. RESTRICTIONS ON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEM

The reload and enrichment specifications must follow the instructions given in the user's manual (ref. 1).
The number of cycles to study, the number of enrichments and other variables are restricted up to some maximum values but they can easily be modified by means of the DIMENSION statements.

6. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

Less than half a second for a neutronic problem, and almost the same time for five economic problems, in CPU time for UNIVAC 1106.

7. UNUSUAL FEATURES OF THE PROGRAM

The program is very much suited for sensitivity analysis of the major variables involved in the neutronic and economic performances of PWR. Cases may be run consecutively, and data required as input can easily be obtained from very simple lattice cell calculations.

8. RELATED AND AUXILIARY PROGRAMS

CICLON, which solves the same neutronic problem with a similar method, but for transition cycles (ref. 2).
