Scope

Under the guidance of the Nuclear Science Committee (NSC) and under the mandate of the Working Party on Multiscale Modelling of Materials (WPMM), the objective of the Expert Group on Multiscale Modelling Methods (EGM3) is to provide a state of the art of the various methods and levels of models used for modelling materials for the nuclear industry (fuels and structural materials). The state of the art includes an overview of the methods but also the possibilities and limits of linking different scales.

Objectives

The objectives of the expert group are to:

  1. Assess the possibilities and limits of both numerical methods applied to multiscale modelling of materials for nuclear energy and means to link them, in written form:
  • Brief outline of the methods as applied to nuclear materials;
  • Advantages and disadvantages;
  • Limits, needs and recommendation.

2. Explore the possibility of computing materials properties via data driven model generation and validation.

3. Foster exchange of experience and dissemination of knowledge gained by applying multiscale tools to fuels and structural materials.

Deliverables

  • A written critical review of the various methods and levels of models used for modelling materials for the nuclear community;
  • Compilation of the available multiscale modelling codes within the nuclear materials’ scientific community.
