The 149th session of the Steering Committee for Nuclear Energy brought together delegates from NEA member countries in Paris on 15-16 April 2025. Held twice a year, the meeting provides an opportunity to review the NEA’s programme of work.
The April session featured discussions on the current and planned NEA activities, joint projects and events, as well as co-operation and engagement with non-member countries.
A discussion with the Chair of the Nuclear Science Committee (NSC), Kemal Pasamehmetoglu, and supporting experts invited meeting participants to share views on key questions related to nuclear fuel cycles and experimental research infrastructure.
During a policy briefing session, Steering Committee members discussed with guest speakers from research institutions and the private sector the supply and demand of medical radioisotopes, as well as perspectives of radioligand therapy, an innovative approach to treating some types of cancer. Delegates and invited experts highlighted the importance of secure supply chains for conventional and innovative nuclear radioisotopes in the medical field. Session participants also emphasised the role of the NEA in bringing together policymakers, producers and other stakeholders to make the appropriate decisions to ensure an economically sustainable, long-term and secure supply of medical radioisotopes.
The next Steering Committee for Nuclear Energy session is scheduled to take place in October 2025.
