Nuclear law is a highly specialised area of law with limited training available in universities and law schools. Organisations like the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) offer continuing legal education programmes but given the growing interest in nuclear, more trainings and webinars are needed to both introduce nuclear law to a broader, more general audience as well as go further in depth on specific topics to a specialised audience. As part of the Women in Nuclear Law Initiative's (WiNLI) Programme of Work, the group aims to produce online and in-person trainings and webinars directed at both the general public as well as the specialised nuclear law community.
This 2nd WiNLI webinar provided a high-level overview of legal considerations for advanced reactors aimed at the general public. Featuring speakers from governments and the private sector in Germany, India, Poland, the United Arab Emirates, the United States and Zambia, the webinar addressed topics such as: how to navigate established nuclear regulatory frameworks, how to create new frameworks for embarking countries, and considerations on transitioning frameworks from fission to fusion, among others. The webinar consisted of six brief presentations.
The webinar was held on 8 July 2025 from 13:00-14:30 CET.
