The Second Framework for Irradiation Experiments (FIDES-II) Technical Advisory Group and Governing Board met on 20-24 April 2026 at the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre SCK CEN in Mol, Belgium. The meetings also marked the fifth anniversary of FIDES-II, commemorated by the unveiling of a plaque recognising SCK CEN’s BR2 materials testing reactor as vital research infrastructure for in-reactor experimentation on fuels and materials.
In his opening remarks, NEA Director-General William D. Magwood, IV thanked SCK CEN and Director-General Peter Baeten for hosting and highlighted the Joint Experimental Programme on Power-to-Melt and Maneuverability (JEEP P2M). Using fuel irradiated in SCK CEN’s BR2 reactor, P2M was one of the four inaugural projects launched under the FIDES Framework, helping shape the Framework’s project structure and delivery. Director-General Magwood reiterated his appreciation for SCK CEN’s continued support for FIDES-II and expressed his best wishes for the successful implementation of JEEP P2M.
FIDES-II Governing Board Chair Peter Ungelenk presented the inaugural FIDES plaque which will be displayed at SCK CEN facilities.
