The NEA in co-ordination with the Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (DSA) are organising the Workshop on Radiological Protection During Armed Conflict. This event will provide a platform to discuss ways to adapt the implementation of radiological regulation as threats emerge and evolve.

Building on the lessons learnt in Ukraine and other conflicts, the workshop will address different observed and hypothetical scenarios of national and regional disruption due to armed conflict.

To further enrich the event, a call for contributions is open, directed to representatives of national and local governments, regulators, nuclear power plant operators, medical professionals and others, Such perspectives will further debates and contribute to meaningful knowledge exchange across six thematic pillars:

  • Operational Challenges of National Instruments and Radiological Protection Standards;
  • Emergency Preparedness and Recovery Under Wartime Constraints;
  • Nuclear Facilities and Energy Infrastructure Under Military Threat;
  • Medical Radiological Protection in Conflict and Post-Conflict Areas;
  • Safety Culture and the Human Factor in Disrupted Environments; and
  • Recovery and Resilience in Radiological Protection the Aftermath of Conflict.

Selected contributions will feed the workshop discussions and be included in the NEA summary report.  Participants interested in contributing to the workshop programme can signal their interest by completing the expression of interest form.

Those signaling their interest should also be registered to the workshop. Workshop registration is open and can be completed online. The workshop is taking place in Oslo, Norway, on 1-4 December 2026.
