Updates from the Committee on Radiological Protection and Public Health (CRPPH)

Top priorities identified through the CRPPH survey for future programmes of work, 2020

NEA Committee on Radiological Protection and Public Health (CRPPH) annual meeting, 9-11 September 2020.

The NEA Committee on Radiological Protection and Public Health (CRPPH) held its annual meeting via video conference on 9-11 September 2020 to discuss its main priorities and activities for the next biennium. The meeting brought together 57 delegates from 21 countries, as well as representatives from international organisations, including the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the World Health Organisation (WHO).

During the meeting, the committee members discussed the results of a survey that was implemented earlier in 2020 to collect views on the evolution of the committee's strategic direction. Based on the survey results, the members identified a programme of work for 2021-2022 that incorporates both a progressive transition to complete the committee’s ongoing activities and preparatory work for future priority activities.

According to the survey results, the number one priority for the modernisation of radiological protection policy and practice should be the practical application of optimisation across various circumstances. As such, the committee members decided to explore the organisation of a stakeholder involvement workshop on this issue, in close co-operation with other NEA Standing Technical Committees and international bodies, such as the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) and the International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA).
