Fundamentals of International Nuclear Law (FINL) 2022

The 2022 Fundamentals of International Nuclear Law (FINL) has been designed by the NEA to provide a high-level, introductory review of the central aspects of international nuclear law in a condensed 3 hours per day, online programme.

On Monday, 14 February there will be a welcome and introductory session where the participants can meet each other and some of the lecturers in an informal atmosphere. The academic programme runs from Tuesday, 15 February through Friday, 18 February.

2022 FINL Programme

Selected participants are expected to attend the entire 5-day programme.

Like the NEA’s other educational programmes (International School of Nuclear Law (ISNL) and International Nuclear Law Essentials (INLE)), the FINL will be conducted under the leadership of Paul Bowden, Honorary Professor of Law, The Nottingham Law School.

Application and admission process

Participation

The 2022 FINL will be limited to 40 participants. Priority will be given to applicants who have not yet attended either of the NEA’s other two educational programmes.

Requirements

Applicants must fill out the application form for consideration. Both professionals and graduate students can apply.

  • Professional applicants should have at least one year of relevant professional experience and a basic knowledge of law as it relates to nuclear energy.
  • Graduate students should be enrolled in an energy or international law-related LLM programme.

Due to high demand, the application period closed on Friday, 14 January 2022.

Applicants do not need to come from NEA member countries.

Practical information

Venue

The FINL will take place entirely online on the teleconferencing platform Zoom. Participants will be expected to join each session with their video on to facilitate interaction among participants and lecturers.

Language

All course instruction and discussion take place in English. Course materials are provided in English. Simultaneous interpretation is not available during the course.

Registration fee

The registration fees for the 2022 FINL are:

  • EUR 300 for professionals; and
  • EUR 100 for students.

The registration fee includes: admission for the participant to the general lecture and discussion sessions and print and electronic reference material.

The registration fee is not subject to French taxes of any kind.

The registration fee can be paid either: (1) online, using a credit or debit card or (2) bank transfer. More details will be provided to those selected for the programme. Participation will be confirmed only upon payment in full of the registration fee.

Conditions

The NEA will process registration fee refunds due to medically-certified illness. Confirmed participants may have the right to transfer their registration to another person.
