In November 2022, the NEA Data Bank held two in-person courses at the NEA headquarters in Paris, France. The first, on SCALE, a widely used modeling and simulation suite for nuclear safety analysis and design, this year focused on Criticality Safety and Radiation Shielding and was held on 14-18 November. The five-day course was instructed by the development team from Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and gathered participants from five countries.
The second week's course was on PHITS (Particle and Heavy Ion Transport code System), a general-purpose Monte Carlo code for simulating. The class was delivered from 21-25 November by one of the code developers from the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) and was attended by participants from nine countries. Both courses are among the highest ranked training courses among those highlighted by the NEA Data Bank Liaison Officers and end users in the NEA Data Bank survey organised in late 2022.
