Strengthening the relationship between the nuclear sector and civil society

Established in 2023, the NEA High-level Group on Stakeholder Engagement, Trust, Transparency and Social Sciences (HLG-SET) will work to support and advance NEA member countries’ efforts to strengthen the relationship between the nuclear sector and civil society.

HLG-SET programme of work will include:

  • Data collection and analysis;
  • Sharing best practices; and
  • Assisting the NEA with its strategic planning in the area of stakeholder engagement.

Chaired by Rumina Velshi, former President and CEO of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, the group gathered virtually its members who are senior experts with deep experience in government, nuclear regulation, foreign policy, industry and academia on 17 May 2024.

The meeting focused on developing the programme of work and the group’s involvement in the Fourth Stakeholder Involvement Workshop scheduled to take place next year. The HLG-SET will work closely together with the Extended Programme Committee of the workshop which will focus on the involvement of stakeholders, and especially civil society, in the decision-making process.
