Chair: Sungyeol Choi, Seoul National University, Korea
A National Nuclear Education Workshop was organised in October 2023 at Seoul National University to help develop a curriculum for a sustainable nuclear fuel cycle and to find ways forward in creating a national deep geological repository programme.
The discussions at the workshop in Korea highlighted the importance of an internationally harmonised curriculum addressing the back end of the nuclear fuel cycle. It was therefore agreed that it would be beneficial to tackle curriculum development in this area at the international level.
The working group is expected to examine how courses can be designed to accommodate students from diverse academic backgrounds, including the sciences, engineering, and social sciences, ensuring a multidisciplinary approach to learning. This holistic perspective is essential for addressing the complex challenges associated with the management of nuclear fuel cycles and deep geological repositories.
