Webinar series on robotics and remote systems for the nuclear back-end: Robotic work at deep geological repositories and other underground nuclear applications

Meeting the growing needs of the nuclear back-end requires the availability of a dedicated workforce as well as the optimisation of the tasks and schedules due to competing projects and sites. The adoption of robotics and remote systems (RRS) could be a significant support by minimising the human exposure and risks associated with back-end activities, but also by allowing new applications which could improve back-end operations.

In order to support this adoption, the Expert Group on the Application of Robotics and Remote Systems in the Nuclear Back-end (EGRRS) is organising a series of webinars to share lessons learnt with a wider audience.

Third webinar: Robotics implementation at deep geological repositories and other underground nuclear applications

The third webinar in the series will feature the following presentations:

  1. Robotic and remote-controlled retrieval of radioactive waste from the Asse Ⅱ mine
Jasmin Müller and Dr Julia Lemke - BGE, Germany
  2. Autonomous mobile robots for deep geological repositories
    Heikki Laitinen - SKB, Sweden
  3. Monitoring system and technologies for emplacing engineered barrier in the Horonobe Underground Research Laboratory

Kazuhei Aoyagi and Hirokazu Ohno - JAEA, Japan
