3. DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM OR FUNCTION

MEXTRA (v 1.1) is a program used to extract numerical values from the MAAP code (v 4.0.7) output file. The MEXTRA program is designed for a MAAP code user, which is developed by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) in the USA. The MAAP code is available only under license from EPRI and may not be reproduced or disclosed, wholly or in part, by any Licensee to any other person or organisation. This program provides simple information early in runtime and requires some inputs, including the input file name, output file name, and variable name to extract. The output of the MAAP code v4.0.7 is a little bit different from the MAAP code v4.0.6. In some cases, existing MEXTRA v1.0 does not execute for the output of the MAAP code v4.0.6, so MEXTRA v1.1 program complements this part.

MEXTRA v 1.1 is an open source software under GNU General Public License, version 2 (SPDX short identifier: GPL-2.0)

4. METHODS

Since the MAAP v 4.0.7 output file records numerical data in a certain format together with the variables, it was implemented to extract the desired numerical data by identifying it at the beginning of the program.

5. RESTRICTIONS ON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEM

Because MEXTRA (v 1.1) program uses the MAAP code (v 4.0.7) output file as an input, it has to be ready with the output file of the MAAP code. There are no other restrictions.

6. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

The running time of the MEXTRA v 1.1 program depends on the size of the input file. The running time of the 393KB input file is about a few seconds on an Intel i7-2600 CPU (3.40 GHz).

7. UNUSUAL FEATURES OF THE PROGRAM

The input file of the MEXTRA (v 1.1) program shall be same with the MEXTRA execution file in working directory. Input files in other directories are not considered. If input file is not in same directory, an error message is displayed and the program terminated.

8. RELATED OR AUXILIARY PROGRAMS

The output file of MEXTRA (v 1.1) program can be easily converted to a spreadsheet Excel format, so that it can be converted for easy manipulation in other tools.
