The MDEP HPR1000 Working Group (HPR1000WG) was approved by the MDEP Policy Group in September 2017. The working group is focused on safety design reviews of Hualong Pressurized Water Reactor Technology Co. LTD HPR1000 design.
The national regulatory authorities participating in the HPR1000WG include:
A key concept of this co-operation is to make each regulator stronger in its reviews while at the same time recognising the sovereign rights and responsibilities of nations in licensing reactors in their countries. The HPR1000WG aims to leverage resources and ensure that the HPR1000 design reviews remain safety-focused. The working group also discusses issues related to vendor inspections, construction oversight, commissioning, early phase operation and the Fukushima accident lessons learned.
Key stakeholders with whom the HPR1000WG interacts routinely include Hualong Pressurized Water Reactor Technology Co.LTD (HPR), Bradwell B Generation Company (BRB GenCo), General Nuclear System (GNS), Argentina Nuclear Power Company and other utilities pursuing licensing and construction of the HPR1000.
The HPR1000WG reports its status to the MDEP Steering Technical Committee (STC) during bi-annual STC meetings.
